Piraeus Bank Stands Firmly with Ukraine, Believing in the Spirit of Resilience
06 November 2024

Since the onset of the full-scale russian invasion, Piraeus Bank has taken on an important mission: to support humanitarian initiatives, support local businesses, and promote social stability in Ukraine.

Since 2022, the Bank has allocated over 8 million UAH toward charitable projects.

Developing Medical and Humanitarian Programs

Piraeus Bank has contributed 1 million UAH to the restoration of Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital following the devastating missile attack.

In June, our team funded a series of tactical medical training sessions organized by the “Tactical Medicine West” team of instructors. These sessions trained 415 soldiers across various regions of Ukraine. Quality tactical medical training remains in critical demand, and to address the shortage of instructors, we are bringing in skilled volunteer trainers.

The Bank also supports the restoration of Ukraine's energy infrastructure, signing a Memorandum alongside leading financial institutions to finance energy restoration projects. This initiative aims to foster distributed and renewable energy, as well as energy-efficient technologies in Ukraine, marking an important step toward securing the resilience of our economy.

Supporting Children Affected by the War

Piraeus Bank became the general partner of the charitable "Kyiv Ball" event for graduates and the children of deceased military personnel. The event was organized by the "White Bird" NGO, community leader and philanthropist Olga Selikh, and Liliya Oliynyk, Director of the "Living in Harmony" NGO, with support from the Kyiv City Administration and Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

In collaboration with the Bumbouras Foundation, the Greek Consulate General in Odesa, and Odesa’s regional and city authorities, a trip to Greece was organized for nearly 100 children affected by the ongoing war in Ukraine. The initiative aimed to foster emotional healing and enhance the psychological well-being of the children.

Strengthening Cultural Connections

Piraeus Bank supported the charity event "Panayir" – a symbol of unity for the Greek diaspora in Ukraine. This event brought together representatives from 100 Greek communities across 19 Ukrainian regions, including those forcibly displaced from Mariupol. The event, organized by the Federation of Greek Societies of Ukraine, sought to promote community unity, Greek culture, and provide aid through charitable efforts.

Supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine

The Bank donated 3.5 million UAH to the “Stalevi” charity foundation, created by Marine and Hero of Ukraine Serhii Volynskyi to support Marines and their families. The funds went toward the treatment and examination of Ukrainian defenders, as well as the development and functioning of a physical and psychological rehabilitation program.

Continued Support for Businesses and Veterans

Despite all challenges, Piraeus Bank remains a reliable partner for Ukraine and, with unwavering faith in its future, continues to support local businesses and the community. During the war, the Bank has opened and updated five branches in various regions and digitized a range of banking services to become more accessible to our clients.

Special attention will continue to be given to veterans reintegrating into a peaceful society, as the team firmly believes they will play a vital role in rebuilding the economy, particularly as entrepreneurs.

We believe in the unbreakable spirit of Ukraine and are committed to working toward the country’s recovery and prosperity.
