Piraeus Bank supported the celebration of the 200th anniversary of "Filiki Etheria" the foundation of the Greek society in Odessa and the 20th anniversary of the branch of the Hellenic Foundation of Culture

Piraeus Bank took part in the celebration of the 200th anniversary of founding "Filiki Etheria" the Greek society in Odessa and the 20th anniversary of the branch of the Hellenic Foundation of Culture. The event was held on 2-4 September 2014 in Odessa. It is noteworthy that within these dates the celebration of the 220th anniversary of the city itself was taking place.

Piraeus Bank, as a representative of the International Piraeus Bank Group, which has Greek roots, could not stay aside. Acting in support of the event, the Bank expresses its great respect for the historic event - the foundation of "Filiki Etheria" in Odessa in 1814. This fact connects the story of Odessa with the revival of Greeks and the development of friendly relations with Ukraine.

The celebration was opened with "Iliadis" an exhibition of engravings from the collection of Christos Yannakosa on "The Iliad and The Odyssey" topic. The main part of the holiday was held at the Odessa National Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet, where the premiere performance of "ROES" dance theater took place, Athens city.

Odessa branch of the Hellenic Foundation of Culture was established in 1992 in Athens (in Ukraine has been functioning since 1994) in order to spread Greek culture and the Greek language throughout the world. It Is subordinate to the Ministry of Culture of Greece.

Organization "Filiki Etheria" was founded in Odessa in 1814 to prepare Greeks to fight for independence and forever linked the history of Odessa with a history of the nation and state revival of Greece.
