Piraeus Bank supported a commemorative event marking Ohi Day, Greece’s national holiday, organised by the Federation of Greek Societies of Ukraine. The event took place at the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War and was held for the first time under the patronage of the Ukrainian National Commission for UNESCO.
Ohi Day is observed on 28 October to commemorate Greece’s refusal to accept an ultimatum from fascist Italy in 1940 and the beginning of Greek resistance to the Italian invasion during World War II.
The event brought together representatives of the diplomatic corps, Ukrainian government institutions, educational institutions, and the Greek community in Ukraine. Participants commemorated the history of Greek resistance and highlighted the values shared by the Ukrainian and Greek people, including freedom, independence, and the preservation of national identity.
As a bank with Greek roots operating in Ukraine since 2007, Piraeus Bank supports initiatives that foster cultural ties between the two countries and strengthen the Greek community in Ukraine. Supporting such initiatives is part of the Bank’s corporate social responsibility and its long-term commitment to Ukraine.
