REGARDING THE INTRODUCING OF RESTRICTIONS FOR TRANSACTIONS IN FOREIGN CURRENCY, PERFORMED BY CARDS IN UAH
15 August 2022

Dear customers - cardholders of Piraeus Bank cards issued to accounts in UAH, please consider the following information:

Kindly remind you that on July 21, 2022, the National Bank of Ukraine issued the mandatory requirements regarding restrictions for an aggregated amount of operations performed in foreign currency by all client’s cards issued to hryvnia accounts, namely:

  • The weekly limit for withdrawing cash abroad from hryvnia cards has been set at the level of 12,500  UAH equivalent;
  • The cumulative monthly limit for payments with hryvnia cards abroad is 100,000 UAH equivalent.

Following the necessity to strictly adheres to the mandatory NBU requirements, Piraeus Bank is forced to leave the possibility of performing transactions in foreign currency using hryvnia cards only for one card out of the list of all UAH cards available to the customer.

Thus, if you are the cardholder of two and more cards, issued to one or more accounts in UAH, the possibility of performing operations in a foreign currency will remain only for one card from all available to you; the rest of the cards will be limited to zero for operations in foreign currencies.

The criteria for appointing a particular hryvnia card as the one that allows foreign currency transactions are:

  • The most recent transaction abroad, or, in the absence of foreign transactions,
  • The most active use of the card within the last three calendar months (or in case the activity is absent – the most recently issued card).

Please pay attention!

If the card, which was selected by the Bank as the default one to carry out transactions in foreign currency, is absolutely not suitable for you, please contact the Piraeus Bank Customer Support via phone numbers, indicated on the back of your card, to leave an application for changing the default card to another available card. Please note that the Bank can make such changes only once.

The requirements do not apply to cards issued to foreign currency accounts. The transaction volume limits for hryvnia cards, appointed for transactions in foreign currencies, remain unchanged (please refer to our previous news on this issue).

In addition, we turn your attention to the following:

  1. if you have more than one current account in UAH opened at Piraeus Bank, in order to use the funds in these accounts abroad, considering the current restrictions, you can freely transfer funds from any of your UAH accounts to the account to which a card with available functionality for conducting operations abroad is issued, using Winbank Internet Bank.
  2. in case you have an additional card in the name of a trusted person also opened to your main UAH account, and you use cards abroad at the same time, we offer, as an alternative to the additional card, to open a separate account or package for the trusted person. This will allow you to freely use your accounts within the current limits while transferring funds between these accounts can be carried out using the Winbank functionality.
