New Restrictions on Foreign Transactions: Important Information for Bank Clients
10 September 2024

Dear clients,

Starting from September 10, 2024, the National Bank of Ukraine is introducing new restrictions on the use of payment cards abroad. These restrictions apply to purchases of jewelry and real estate transactions made with cards issued by Ukrainian banks. The key restrictions are as follows:

  1. Limit on jewelry purchases
A monthly limit of 100,000 UAH (equivalent in foreign currency) is set for the purchase of precious stones, metals, jewelry, watches, coins, and stamps.
  2. Limit on real estate transactions
For payments to real estate agents and managers abroad, a monthly limit of 500,000 UAH is established. This applies to commission fees for property management and accommodation payments.

The Piraeus Bank processing center is currently exploring technical solutions to implement these limits. In the meantime, to comply with the regulator's requirements, we are temporarily introducing a full restriction on card transactions (both in UAH and foreign currencies) outside Ukraine in the following merchant categories:

  • Precious stones and jewelry (Merchant Code 5094)
  • Watches and silverware (Merchant Code 5944)
  • Coin and stamp stores (Merchant Code 5972)
  • Real estate agencies (Merchant Code 6513)

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this temporary measure.

Please keep these new restrictions in mind when planning your expenses abroad. We will notify you of any changes in the implementation of these restrictions.
